Next, my good friend Joe, who is a very successful stockbroker.

When he was a child, living in Manchester, his mother went on a holiday to America and on the ship, she suffered a heart attack and died. Joe was deeply shocked by this event because he loved her immeasurably. It left him traumatised and he couldn’t speak about it for many years. In due course, as with most such grievous experiences, he eventually seemed to have overcome his loss.

Later, when he was grown up, he had a hobby, playing records for people in The Manchester Royal Infirmary. This gave him a deep satisfaction and he did it for free.

Figure 14 shows a sample of his script and I have demonstrated how he wrote the name of the famous Al Jolson number “Mammy”. All other titles were as his writing shows – small right-slanted writing with a reasonable width between letters. Please note the left-slanted and narrowly spaced writing of my reproduction of “Mammy”.

Unfortunately, I no longer have the list, which disappeared whilst I lived in Buenos Aires for a while. I have therefore reconstructed it.
